  • Note: The journey from Cairo to Alexandria typically takes approximately 2.5 hours.

Upon arrival, you will discover a city where Greco-Roman grandeur meets Islamic heritage in a truly unique architectural tapestry. Nestled along the Mediterranean, Alexandria’s stunning coastline and maritime culture lend the city a distinct, captivating charm. Often referred to as a "treasure trove of culture," the city boasts a remarkable collection of heritage sites spanning Ancient Egyptian, Greco-Roman, and Islamic eras.

Descend deep underground into a vast Roman-era necropolis. Originally built for a wealthy family, these catacombs offer a fascinating glimpse into the seamless fusion of Ancient Egyptian and Greco-Roman traditions. The interior is adorned with intricate carvings and murals where Egyptian deities stand alongside Greek and Roman gods—a rare artistic synergy. You will be struck by the imposing columns, echoing the grandeur of the Parthenon, and statues reminiscent of Emperor Hadrian’s era. It is a profound opportunity to witness the evolution of funerary rites and the unique cultural marriage that defined ancient Alexandria.

The Bibliotheca Alexandrina is a stunning contemporary tribute to the legendary Great Library of Alexandria. Originally founded in the 3rd century BC as the zenith of ancient knowledge, the original library was tragically lost to fire and conflict. Today’s library stands as a worthy successor, serving as one of the world’s most significant academic institutions.
Architecturally, the building is a masterpiece; its sun-disk design features a vast, shimmering glass façade that tilts towards the Mediterranean. Inside, it houses over eight million volumes, including rare manuscripts and invaluable historical documents. Beyond its role as a library, it is a vibrant cultural hub with museums and galleries that bridge the gap between antiquity and the modern age—a truly striking landmark on the Alexandrian skyline.

  • Important Note: As the Library is closed on Fridays, So we will visit the magnificent Pompey’s Pillar instead.
Pompey’s Pillar: A Monument of Imperial Grandeur
Erected in the early 4th century, Pompey’s Pillar is one of the largest ancient monoliths outside of Rome. Standing at an impressive 25 metres tall, this red granite column is a powerful symbol of Roman architectural prowess. Despite its name, the association with the Roman general Pompey is a historical misnomer, as it was actually dedicated to Emperor Diocletian.
Surrounded by the remnants of the Serapeum temple, the site offers a fascinating look at the intersection of Roman authority and Egyptian tradition. Here, you can wander among the ruins and feel the enduring influence of the Roman Empire on this ancient coastal capital.

As a historic maritime city, no visit to Alexandria is complete without indulging in its world-renowned seafood. Before we depart, we will pause for a leisurely lunch at one of the city's premier restaurants. Settle in and relax as you savour the catch of the day, prepared with authentic Mediterranean flavours. With the sea breeze as your backdrop, this is the perfect moment to unwind and soak in the coastal atmosphere over a truly exceptional meal

A Guardian of the Mediterranean
Perched on the edge of the harbour, the Citadel of Qaitbay is a formidable 15th-century fortress commissioned by Sultan Al-Ashraf Qaitbay. Most remarkably, it stands on the exact site of the legendary Pharos Lighthouse—one of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World. The fortress was constructed using the fallen stones of the ancient lighthouse, weaving the glory of antiquity into its very walls.
As you explore the stronghold, you will discover impressive military architecture, featuring robust towers and defensive ramparts designed to protect the city from naval invasion. The highlight of your visit will undoubtedly be the panoramic views from the battlements, where the azure Mediterranean meets the Alexandrian skyline. Within the citadel, a modest museum offers further insights into the city’s maritime history and the evolution of this historic site.

With our journey in Alexandria drawing to a close, we are now beginning our return to Cairo. We will ensure a smooth journey back, dropping you off directly at your guide's accommodation.
